For the second
year in a row, Makassed College for Girls wins first place in the Makassed Annual
Public Speech Competition which was held on Saturday, March 31.
Four finalists
from various Makassed colleges made it to the final contest where competitors
delivered 7 to 10-minute speeches which were judged on core message, speech
development, language, and delivery techniques.
The winner and
the three runners-up were chosen by a panel of guest judges.
Our student Sally
Abu El Joud from grade ten won first place on her speech titled “Freedom Or
Security: A False Dichotomy”. In last year’s final contest, our student Hala
Kriedieh also came first.
President Amine
Daouk presented the awards to all four finalists who were commended for their courage,
great speeches, and use of the spoken word to influence and to inspire.
In fact, students
who take part in speaking contests gain many practical skills and develop their
confidence and self image, which makes it both an empowering and rewarding experience.
