Fear not those who argue but those who dodge. Dale Carnegie
The Debate Club organized its second debate this year. It was Grade Ten’s turn to take to the stage. Upon finishing unit three - Gender and Relationships- the students opted to debate a controversial issue in today’s society: “Should divorce be made easier to obtain, or are there moral reasons to discourage it?” To build their arguments, the debaters did not only resort to their research findings but also used real-life examples and experiences of people in their community. They grabbed the attention of the audience who participated eagerly and asked both teams challenging questions that led to a more in-depth discussion of the issue.

Piano live performance
The story "The Treasure of Lemon Brown" by Walter Dean Myers opened another world for my students, a world of music, which doesn't need a language. "Where words fail, music speaks", as Hans Christian Anderson once said.
The piano live performance presented by Mrs. Irina Hammoud, a piano teacher, for the girls of grades 7 - 8 on a cold windy day was much more than sounds, octaves, and rhythms; it was also energy and emotions with a direct feedback. It was amazing how some musical pieces of different composers could change the girls' moods and thoughts in an instant.
Music is a mystery that can shape anyone into Something! It's a tool that can strengthen our minds, unlock our hidden creativity, and reach deep into our spirits.Music is that treasure, an immeasurably inexhaustible source, to which anyone can refer to at any moment of life.

Study Skills for People Who Hate to Study
Many teens struggle to complete out-of-school assignments. They may spend their work time spinning their wheels, feeling that they are drowning in work while in fact accomplishing little.
Designed to help students get organized, this program helps set goals and priorities, and allows students to stay in charge of their schoolwork. Viewers learn about the processes in the brain that help us plan, organize, concentrate, and focus. Program identifies the three main obstacles to effective study—Disorganization, Procrastination, and Distraction—and demonstrates tips and strategies to allow viewers to develop their own unique style of overcoming these obstacles. Includes reproducible worksheets and information handouts to implement the strategies in the program.
The message is clear: You can get your work done. It doesn't have to be painful. And you will have more time for the things you love to do, without unfinished work hanging over your head.

Count Your Blessings
Upon visiting The Lebanese School for the Blind & Deaf, Rana Mzayyek from Grade Ten wrote the following:
On behalf of my friends, I would like to thank our school for giving us the chance to see the world from a different perspective: the perspective of the blind and the deaf. At first, we felt sorry for those young children and teenagers, but as we moved around from one classroom to another, we were amazed by the students’ ability to manage their life and earn an education despite the enormous physical challenges they face. On the other hand, talking to them, we found that they are basically just like us, the "seeing and hearing" students. The visit was an enlightening experience and a reminder to us to count our blessings.

Debate Heat
As has been customary at the end
of the first term, students of grade twelve (life Sciences) and students of
grade eleven (Sciences) took to the stage to debate a controversial issue
pertaining to the topics covered by their curriculum. The affirmative team
proposition was: “Resolved that the selling of human organs should be
legalized.”
The students took their time to research both sides of the
issue before they chose their positions. They then formed two teams and were
given additional time to do further research, compare ideas, share notes and
construct their arguments and counterarguments.
Each team was represented by three students who gave arguments
complete with opening statements, rebuttals, and closing remarks. The remaining
students on each team were a significant part of the cross examinations. They
had come to class with two prepared questions aiming at refuting the argument
of the opposing team, probing for weaknesses in its reasoning.
The impassioned debaters and audience were very excited as the
debate got heated. Their energy showed that even tough topics like the one they
were debating could be transformed into something stimulating and accessible to
the students.

Using Vocabulary in Context! Grade 9
The student in Grade 9, Sara Zayat, was capable
of using new vocabulary words to construct a beautiful coherent paragraph . The paragraph reflected a student's perspective of success in life.Good Work Sara!!
Sara wrote:
You must follow certain criteria to reach success. One of the requisites
for success is to have tolerance in your way of thinking and in your
life. You must face real life and the difficult situations that come
with it and not try to escape from them. Yet, it's not bad to take your mind
to a fictitious place where you can feel comfortable. When you’re fined for
a certain fault, you can’t just ignore it; you must deal with it. You shouldn't
stand still in front of your problems; try as much as you can to solve
them. These are some of the ways to make your life flourish….
